How to Prepare for an Airbrush Tan in Boston

An airbrush tan is the fastest way to feel confident and look polished before an event, but the difference between a good tan and a great one often comes down to preparation. At Pure Glow Boston — with studios in Back Bay, Seaport, and Chestnut Hill — we see clients daily for weddings, galas, school dances, and vacations. Here’s what we recommend to get the best results every time.

The day before your appointment

• Exfoliate head to toe with a mitt or loofa. This removes dry patches and helps the solution go on evenly.

• Skip heavy lotions or oils. These can block absorption.

• If you wax, do so at least 24 hours in advance.

On the day of your tan

• Arrive with clean, dry skin. Avoid lotion, deodorant, perfume, or makeup.

• Dress in what feels comfortable during your tan. Most women wear underwear or a swimsuit. Men are required to wear shorts or swim trunks. Disposable thongs are available.

• Expect your appointment to take about 20 minutes, including prep and aftercare instructions.

After your tan

• Wear loose, dark clothing for the rest of the day. Tight straps and waistbands can leave lines.

• Stay dry for 5–7 hours. Don’t shower, sweat, or swim until your rinse window.

• Shower at 5 hours for a lighter shade or 7 hours for a deeper shade. Development stops after 7 hours, so you can rinse when it’s convenient.

Caring for your glow

• Moisturize twice daily with an oil-free, alcohol-free lotion.

• Pat dry after showers instead of rubbing.

• Avoid long soaks in hot tubs or baths until after your event.

• With good care, your Pure Glow tan lasts 8–10 days.

• Can I wear makeup after my appointment? Stick to mineral powders until your first rinse. Avoid liquids or creams that could affect development.

• How soon before a wedding should I tan? Most brides and grooms book a trial session weeks before, then schedule their final tan 2–3 days before the wedding.

• Can I book with friends? Yes. We arrange group sessions for dances, formals, or bridal parties.
